BSB Swept by Mississippi Gulf Coast

Twinbill concludes 2023 Out-of-State Schedule

Perkinston, Miss. - The ICC baseball team (3-6) has grown very accustomed to the state of Mississippi. Sunday afternoon, they wrapped up a nine-game slate down south, playing a doubleheader with Mississippi Gulf Coast.

MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST 5, ICC COUGARS 1
A two-run double, solo home run, and a passed ball had the host Bulldogs leading 4-0 after four innings.

The Cougars would tally their lone run of the game in the next half inning when Zach Otten singled and Luke Doty scored on the throw.

The second homer of the game for the Bulldogs set the final score in the fifth inning.

Hitting:
Zach Otten | 1 hit, 1 RBI
Camden Porter | 1 hit
Matt Evans | 1 hit
Clayton Shirley | 2 walks

Pitching:
Jake Jacek | 4 innings, 2 strikeouts
Aidan Leemans | 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 strikeout

MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST 3, ICC COUGARS 1
Game two was locked in a pitcher's duel. While the Bulldogs scored an early second-inning run on an error, the pitching and defense kept both sides off the scoreboard for five and a half innings. That almost wasn't the case, however. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the sixth on a pair of singles and a walk, but the Cougars turned a double play to get out of it.

The Cougars would load the bases themselves in game two, with a Luke Doty single, Zach Otten single, and Beau Durbin walk happening consecutively to start the eighth, but the next three batters all recorded outs and it was to no avail.

Mississippi Gulf Coast would add a couple of insurance runs in the eighth on a passed ball and RBI sacrifice fly.

ICC got their lone run of the game on an RBI double from Doty, scoring Matt Evans, and setting the 3-1 final score.

Hitting:
Luke Doty | 2 hits, 1 RBI
Zach Otten | 1 hit
Clayton Shirley | 1 hit

Pitching:
Carson Johnson | 4 innings, 0 earned runs, 5 strikeouts
Ian McGhiey | 3 innings, 0 earned runs, 3 strikeouts
Kaiser Quick | 4 batters faced, 0 hits
Kannon Kelly | 2 batters faced, 0 hits, 1 strikeout
