Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Carterville, Ill. - Perhaps it was a 'welcome back' of sorts for ICC baseball (3-8) on Saturday. After playing the previous 10 games of their schedule out-of-state, coach
Brett Kelley's squad was back in Illinois, at long last. It, however, was not a smooth welcome, as the John A. Logan Vols rolled to a pair of wins in the doubleheader.
GAME 1: JOHN A. LOGAN 17, ICC COUGARS 4
The game started off that in no way is representative of the final score. A pair of singles from
Beau Durbin and
Josh Heyder set up
Jackson Powell for an RBI sacrifice fly.
Camden Porter followed that up with an RBI double and putting the Cougars ahead 2-0 after the top of the first.
Nick Hainline and the Cougar defense held the Vols to a 1-2-3 first, including the turning of a double play to end the inning. It looked as if ICC was playing good ball and on their way to a potential W.
It all came back down when the Vols dropped a six-run second inning that saw three extra-base hits including a home run. That immediately wiped away the positive start.
Frankly, the Vols were far from over, out-scoring ICC 11-2 the rest of the game.
One of those two runs, however, did come on a solo home run off the bat of Powell on the first pitch of the at-bat. Heyder, who was ahead on a 3-0 count in the sixth, woudl proceed to launch a home run over the left field fence for ICC's fourth and final run of the game.
Hitting:
Josh Heyder | 2 hits, 1 RBI
Jackson Powell | 1 hit, 2 RBI
Camden Porter | 1 hit, 1 RBI
Pitching:

Aidan Leemans | 3 innings, 3 strikeouts
Cole Thomas | 9 batters faced
Kaiden Rixner | 0.2 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs
GAME 2: JOHN A. LOGAN 7, ICC COUGARS 2
It was a quick turnaround into game two of the doubleheader, but this time, the Vols wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. The hosts would start the game with five unanswered runs within the game's first two innings.
ICC's Saturday theme of power rolled right into game two, with a two-run home run from
Josh Heyder pulling the Cougars within 5-2 after three innings. Unfortunately, that would be all the runs ICC would score.
John A. Logan added two more runs in the fifth inning and walked away with a doubleheader sweep.
Hitting:
Camden Porter | 2 hits
Josh Heyder | 1 hit, 2 RBI
Beau Durbin | 1 hit, 1 walk
Pitching:
