Galesburg, Ill. - The Illinois Central College baseball team used a two-run ninth inning to rally over Carl Sandburg 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
ICC trailed 2-1 heading into the final inning when
Tyler Bishop hit a lead-off single to center field. With one out,
Clayton Shirley was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second and then Riley McAllister had an RBI single to make the score 2-all.
Zach Otten grounded into a fielder's choice to score Shirley for the winning run.
Gavin Thompson shut down the Chargers in the bottom of the ninth for the save.
The Chargers held a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth inning when Riley McAllister lined a double to right field and scored on a Zack Otten grounder for ICC's first run.
On the day, Otten had two RBI and McCallister one RBI while
Josh Heyder and McAllister each doubled and went 2-4.
Beau Durbin also doubled.
Kaden Rixner was the starting pitcher for ICC and pitched three innings with two earned runs while recording two strikeouts.
Gage Burdick pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three batters,
Gavin Thompson tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and earned the save while Ian McGiey went two innings to get the win.
Next up: The Cougars (6-12) are slated to open Mid-West Athletic Conference play with a four-game series against Vincennes on Sunday, March 26 and Monday, March 27. All games will be at Thome Field with start times of 1pm both days.
