Champaign, Ill. - The Illinois Central College softball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Danville in the Region 24 Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Dodds Athletic Complex.   The Cougars, who trailed 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh, scored a run and were looking for more but couldn't get the break they needed.  The team closes the season at 28-17.

"Our defense was solid and Kiersten pitched well enough but we just couldn't get the offense going enough to score," coach Heather Doty said.  "It hurts to end our season this way but we're proud of our team for battling through a lot of adversity and having a good season."

Danville took a 3-0 lead on solo home runs in the third and sixth, and a single and double in the fifth.

In the top of the seventh Kiersten Manning was hit by a pitch and Savanah Clifton walked to put runners at first and second.  Madi Kessler pinch-ran for Manning and advanced to third on passed ball.  Kessler scored on a Shylar Boze sacrifice fly to cut the DACC lead to 3-1.  Marley Williamson then walked but the Jaguar pitcher got the final two batters to strikeout to end the game.

ICC had two of their four hits in the top of the second inning on singles by Clifton and Williamson but the Jaguars turned a double play to get out of the inning.  The Cougars threatened again in the sixth as Kylie Hyde singled and was bunted over to second by Olivia Stirnaman but could not get the runner in.

Manning struck out four of the first six hitters and tallied 10 total strikeouts.
