Plainfield, Ill. - Tuesday morning, as coach Sean Kennedy and the ICC men's golf team took to the driving range at Wedgewood Golf Course,
Brady Gruden was in a sweatshirt. The rest of the team were in jackets. The temperatures were certainly low, perhaps the lowest for a tournament this fall. The low temperatures became a metaphor, as the Cougars had perhaps their best team-wide tournament of the fall. They took home the team title, for one, and every ICC golfer broke 80, including the three that were not counting towards the team score.
The success of the team just scratches the surface. With a team score of 294, starting off the individual success was
Peyton Woods, who Coach Kennedy said "came to play today", took home medalist honors after not just breaking 80, but breaking 70 and carding a 69.
Hunter Ficken was right behind him, carding a 70. Ficken finished in a tie for second, but took it outright after a tiebreak procedure.
Following those two were
Luke Markley (77),
Collin Roche (78), and
Brock Taylor (79) within just a few strokes of each other.
As for the aforementioned golfers competing as individuals,
Quinn Cox (76),
Brady Gruden (77), and
Jarod Oderwald (77) paced that group.
Tuesday marks the third tournament win under Coach Kennedy's tutelage, and second this fall after winning the Cougar Fall Classic at the start of this month.
ICC will have a substantial break from tournament play for now, as they're not in action until Thursday, September 21st, at the Skyhawk Challenge at Deer Valley Golf Club.
