Gulf Shores, Ala. - It was finally time on Thursday evening for the Illinois Central College softball team (0-2) to start its 2024 season, with the Cougars competing in the always tough Coyote Classic. The Cougars battled to a 3-2 loss to East Central Missouri and a 15-2 loss to D1 Iowa Western to wrap day one in Alabama. 

GAME 1 | EAST CENTRAL MISSOURI 3, ICC COUGARS 2
A leadoff homer in the fourth inning for Nivarra Oredina tied the game up at 2-2 in the fourth. From there, a pitcher's duel ensued. The occasional single and walk were surrendered by both pitchers, but nothing further. A single and a couple walks for the Falcons in the bottom of the seventh opened the door for a walkoff single for the 3-2 victory for East Central Missouri.

GAME 2 | D1 IOWA WESTERN 15, ICC COUGARS 2 (5 inn.)
The Reivers got right to the scoreboard in the second game of the day, scoring nine runs in the first inning. ICC was able to put a two-spot up in the third inning on a two-run homer from freshman Broghan Hall, scoring Marley Williamson, who'd drawn a walk. Alas, that would be all for the Cougar offense. Iowa Western would add on thre emore in the second and three more in the third for a 13-run win.

SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE! 
It should be noted that while Friday's games are still on as scheduled, the Cougars games that were originally scheduled for Saturday have now all been wiped out. The Cougars will play two more games on Friday and then that will conclude their trip to Gulf Shores before returning home for a home game on March 1st.
