Senatobia, Miss. - The Illinois Central College Baseball team (4-4) hit the road for its annual trip down to Mississippi, making its first stop at Jim Miles Field, the home of the Northwest Mississippi Rangers, who were (6-2) on the year coming into the game. It was a thriller, with the Cougars going down as much as 5-1 through the fifth inning, before ICC put up two crooked numbers in the sixth and ninth innings, including a
Tyler Bishop go-ahead two-run double in the ninth for an 8-7 victory on the road.
ICC got on the board first in the top of the second, by way of
Jacob Castleman scoring on a passed ball, but the midsection of the game appeared left for the Rangers. Northwest Mississippi put up three runs in the third and one in the fourth to expand to the aforementioned 5-1 lead. That's when the Cougar bats turned on the jets. As part of a loaded five-run top of the sixth,
Riley McCallister had a two-run double,
Nick Piazza had a two-run double, and
Luke Doty had an RBI double to go from down 5-1 to up 6-5. Now, the Rangers tacked on a couple more, but effectively, the bats were held down just enough, as Aidan Leemans,
Blake Norton, and
Ian McGhiey combined for five innings of relief with no earned runs. Offensively, the dagger came in the ninth, when Bishop had the addressed double to score Castleman and
Kannon Kleine for the one-run win.
