Carterville, Ill. - The Illinois Central College baseball team (10-16, 6-2) went south to take on the D1 #17-ranked Volunteers from John A. Logan, who the Cougars faced to start the 2024 season. The Cougars were within 4-2 after four innings, but the Volunteers would explode for eight unanswered runs over the sixth-eighth innings to win it, 12-2.

ICC was held off the scoreboard for the first three innings, but only trailed 2-0. In the top of the fourth, Noah Campbell had a two-run single that scored both Bryce Bishop and Kyle Mack, who'd advanced on wild pitches earlier in the at bat. 

John A. Logan countered with two runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth, with none of the four runs scoring on extra base hits. 

The dagger was the bottom of the eighth inning for the Volunteers. An error, walk, error, two-run double, RBI walk, RBI triple, and RBI single walked it off for the hosts and ended it an inning ahead of schedule.
