Canton, Ill. - The Illinois Central College traveled back to Canton on Friday to try and turn the fortunes against Spoon River but lost 5-1 to close out the 2023-24 season. On Thursday, the Snappers had taken Game 1 and were leading 3-1 in the fifth inning of Game 2 when the game was halted due to weather so the teams resumed play on Friday where SRC ended up on top.
"We came up just short," said softball coach Heather Doty. "We were right there, we just had a few things that didn't go our way. We're proud of our team for how they battled."
In the top of the fifth, the Cougars went scoreless despite a base hit by
Madi Kessler. SRC was able to manufacture two runs in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out rally on three consecutive singles to increase their lead to 5-1.
The Cougars had the bases loaded in both the sixth and the seventh innings but couldn't get the timely hit to overcome the deficit and extend their season.

Shylar Boze RBI double in the first inning of Thursday's action. SRC scored three runs in the bottom of the second for Friday's starting score of 3-1.
Broghan Hall went the distance on the mound, scattering eight hits in six innings.
