Metamora, IL - The Illinois Central Men's Golf team has been busy the past week or so. Not far removed from volunteering at the IESA Boys & Girls State Golf Finals, the Cougars were right back on the course, hosting the Cougar Fall Classic at Metamora Fields on Monday and Tuesday. The field was filled with numerous familiar opponents, including four MWAC Conference members (Parkland, Heartland, ICC, Lewis & Clark). By event's end, the Cougars had three individuals within the Top 20, but as far as team standings go, were eclipsed by Region foes Parkland and Heartland, ending in third place.
Trey Boecker would pace the Cougars individually again, continuing his streak of five consecutive events in the Top 5 to begin his collegiate career. His Monday round was highlighted by a four-birdie front nine, ending in a -2 / 69. The freshman would finish with seven birdies for the classic as a whole.
The front nine friendliness would continue with
Brooks Cluver, but this time on his Tuesday round, where Cluver would card a -4 / 31, also without the blemish of a bogey on those nine. Cluver would also finish with seven birdies by the end of both rounds.
Quinn Cox would birdie three times on Monday and twice on Tuesday for a grand total of five birdies. His best round on a singular day would come by way of a +2 / 73 on Monday.
As much conversation as there is around the Cougars' efforts on the front nine, it was the back nine for
DJ Norman. Norman would card four birdies on the back nine during his Tuesday round, all part of an even-par 71. Norman would finish the event with five total birdies.
Brock Taylor would birdie five times, with three of them coming during his Monday round. That Monday round also saw Taylor birdie on consecutive holes, the par-5 16th and par-4 17th.
Drake Kaufman birdied three times, including twice on Monday, with those scores coming on the par-3 8th and par-4 13th.
The Cougars are off until next Monday's (September 23rd) Jaguar 36 at Danville Country Club.
