Danville, IL - It was a long drive to the east for the Illinois Central College Golf team, as the Cougars ventured to Danville Country Club to partake in the Jaguar 36, an event filled with a highly-competitive field of Region 24 foes and a pair of four-year institutions. After a bit of a slow start, the Cougars surged, and a clutch finish to the day from
Trey Boecker gave him his third medalist honor of the fall, as the team was only bested by Region opponent Parkland.
Boecker's start to the event seemed to have put him behind the eight ball early, sitting at +4 through four holes, with a double bogey and two bogeys. For the remaining 32 holes of the tournament - two bogeys. All other holes saw the freshman card a par or birdie, including back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes in his final round to secure the aforementioned medalist honors.
DJ Norman would finish just two strokes behind Boecker, evenly splitting six birdies between his two rounds for the day. That included a birdie on the par-5 1st during his opening round. That first front nine would be Norman's best segment of the day, playing to even par.
Hunter Ficken birdied on the par-five 7th amidst his second round, just part of a five-birdie day for the sophomore, who carded a +2/74 in the second round for his best round of the event.
Quinn Cox had a three-birdie second round, and four in total. That second round included two birdies on par-5 holes (1st, 7th), and eventually, an even-par 71.
Peyton Woods had the best singular hole played of the day, carding an eagle on the par-4 11th hole, in what would pan out to be a day with three total holes of birdie or better, including a birdie on the par-5 1st.
Drake Kaufman played to a -1/35 on the front nine of his first round, and would conclude the proceedings with three total birdies, with two of those both being on the par-5 1st.
Brock Taylor would card a par or better on 23 of the event's 36 holes, including a birdie on the par-4 17th during his second round, which was his best round of the day at a +5/76.
Brooks Cluver had three birdies by the end of his day, inclduing back-to-back birdies on the par-4 9th and par-4 10th during his opening round, which at a +4/75, would be his best of the two rounds.
