Melbourne, FL - The (RV) Illinois Central College Softball team (6-9) continued its time at the Space Coast Spring Games on Sunday by taking on both the D1 Monroe Mustangs and the Bryant & Stratton (WI) Bobcats. It was a competitive, but tough day, as the Cougars would out-hit both opponents on the day, but come away with a pair of identical 4-3 losses.
GAME ONE | (RV) ILLINOIS CENTRAL 8, D1 STATE FAIR 0 (6 inn.)
After Emily Compton started the game with two scoreless innings in the circle, her bats helped her out in the second, with Cassidee Bauer hitting a ground ball out into right for an RBI, bringing home Olivia Strawn for a 1-0 lead.
Two batters later, Kelsey Bartels fought off a 2-2 pitch to line a single up the middle to score both Courtney Campbell and Bauer, giving ICC a 3-0 lead at that point.
Compton would surrender her first hit in the fourth, but the scoreboard still said zero for the Roadrunners.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bartels reached on an error and was soon followed by Nivarra Oredina after being hit by a pitch, but that duo was stranded.
Another scoreless frame for Compton was backed up by a two-run inning for the Cougars, with Bauer getting an RBI single and Strawn scoring on a passed ball, making it 5-0 ICC after five.
ICC's bats were able to end it early in the sixth, with Bailey Herrick legging out an RBI triple, then Herrick herself scored on an error on the same play. Marlee Brown would get an RBI groundout to score Kayleigh Harr and end it with an eight run mercy rule.

GAME TWO | (RV) ILLINOIS CENTRAL 5, D1 NORTH CENTRAL MISSOURI 4
This game was quite the interesting one. Nine combined runs on the scoreboard made for an offensive showcase, but the nine runs were scored in a combined inning and a half.
A pitchers duel ensued at the game's start, with Broghan Hall five of the first six she faced.
It wasn't until a Bailey Herrick RBI single in the fourth put any runs up on the board, with ICC now holding a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Olivia Strawn too a first-pitch bunt single and hustled it out, getting an RBI with Herrick scoring, and Morgan Kessler scoring on an error.
ICC would lead 5-0 when Kelsey Bartels swung first pitch and lined an RBI single up the middle to score both Strawn and Courtney Campbell.
Perhaps a flip of the script from Sunday's games, now it was the Pirates' turn. A pair of RBI singles, and a run scoring on an error made it a two-run game after four.
Another run would score on a steal of home. 5-4 Cougars after five. Despite momentum seemingly being on North Central Missouri's side, Hall and the ICC defense teamed up to shut the door, retiring every Pirate the rest of the way to secure a one-run victory.
