Brooks Cluver won his first-ever Collegiate Medalist Championship to lead the Illinois Central College men's golf team to the Melee at Morris Title at Nettle Creek Country Club on Thursday. Cluver, a sophomore from Clinton HS, shot an even par 71 as the Cougars competed in their final regular season event ahead of the Region 24 Championship.
The Cougars owned the top three spots as
Drake Kaufman and
Logan Smith each shot a 72 to tie for third. Collectively, the team shot a 4-over par 288 and won by 11 swings.
"This was an outstanding team effort to wrap up our regular season play," coach Sean Kennedy said. "It was great seeing Brooks win his 1
st Collegiate Medalist Championship and have Drake and Logan tie for third. Our team has won seven tournaments this year and had an excellent regular season and are now ready and anxious to begin our post-season journey on Sunday."
NOTE: The Region Championship was originally scheduled for Monday, but due to impending weather has been moved up to begin Sunday.
