Carroll Herman was one of the most decorated coaches in Illinois Central College history. Beginning in 1979-80, Coach Herman guided the men’s basketball program to eight straight 20-
win seasons. His 1981-82 team won 25 games and the Illinois State Championship (and was later enshrined in the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame). In 20 seasons as the ICC head
men’s basketball coach, Herman complied a 381-250 record. He also served as ICC Athletic Director. His teams won nine Arrowhead Conference Titles, five NJCAA Sectional
Championships, and 10 Region 24 Championships. His 1995-96 team won the Collegiate Conference of Central Illinois Championship and Coach Herman was named 1996 CCCI Coach of the Year. His men’s basketball teams twice earned trips to the NJCAA National Tournament, and the 1996-97 team took home 3rd place. He coached four NJCAA All-Americans and helped graduate more than 100 players onto four-year basketball programs. In 1990 Coach Herman was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, and the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2007. Carroll (Coach) Herman passed away in 2018.
