Sue Sinclair was a winner and a leader during her 29-year tenure at Illinois Central College. She wore many Athletic Department hats for the Cougars. Recruited to ICC by fellow inductee Lorene Ramsey in 1990, Sue started as Head Volleyball Coach, Assistant Softball Coach, and Women’s Athletic Director. She succeeded another fellow inductee—Carroll Herman—as ICC’s sole Athletic Director in 1999, while continuing to build a 952-426 record as Head Volleyball coach. She guided her teams to 18 NJCAA National Tournament appearances and 11 finishes in the top 8, highlighted by winning the 2009 NJCAA Division II National Championship. Sue coached 32 players who were awarded NJCAA All-American status, and 82 of her players went on to play at 4-year schools.
Sue was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004, and the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2018. She served on various boards, including the American Volleyball Coaches Association, NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association, and USA Volleyball. Sue spent her entire coaching career at ICC, explaining: “Once a Cougar, always a Cougar.”
