Women's Basketball falls in Season Opener

Cougars drop 10-point decision at D1-ranked Wabash Valley

11/3/2021 10:39:00 PM

Mt. Carmel, Ill. - The fourth-ranked ICC women's basketball team (0-1, 0-0) dropped a 73-63 decision at #13 (in DI) Wabash Valley in Mount Carmel on Wednesday night.

The Warriors were the aggressors early, taking a 25-15 advantage after one quarter. ICC got two back-to-back three-pointers from Laisha Armendariz-Lopez but still trailed 37-27 at the half.

The Cougars found their rhythm in transition and got to the free throw line in the third period, outscoring Wabash 21-15 to close the gap to 52-48. Cierra McNamee battled on the boards and had seven points in the quarter as ICC hit 11 of 13 free throws helping their cause.

ICC couldn't ever cut the deficit to less than four points in the final stanza as they didn't get timely stops or convert on the offensive end, allowing WVC to pull away for the final margin.

The Cougars continue their 'road trip' with a game at the Eagles from Illinois Valley on Saturday in Oglesby.
