Cicero, Ill. - The #14 Illinois Central College women's basketball team suffered a 75-50 loss to #2 Morton College on Friday evening in non-conference action. The Cougars trailed by only three points at halftime but a slow start to the third quarter and hot second half shooting by the hosts led to the lopsided final score.
The teams played evenly in the opening minutes as Morton took a 10-8 lead but then the offense stalled for ICC as the Panthers went on a run to take a 23-12 lead after one. The ICC defense tightened and held Morton scoreless for the first four minutes to start the second quarter which helped trim their deficit to 33-30 at the half.
ICC started the third period with empty possessions while only managing to score a total of eight points in the quarter. Unfortunately Morton did just the opposite, nailing six three-pointers in the period and exploding with 28 points to grab a 61-38 lead heading into the fourth.
The final quarter was much of the same as the Cougars dropped to a 4-3 record overall.
Leaders (only points were kept by the official scorers)
Cierra McNamee | 12 points
Elena Redgate | 12 points
Peyton Dearing | 1 charge taken
