Godfrey, Ill. - The Illinois Central College women's soccer team defeated Lincoln Trail 4-1 in the Central District Quarterfinals at Tim Rooney Stadium on Friday afternoon to advance to Sunday's District semi-final against #1 Iowa Western.  It was the Cougars' third victory over the Statesmen and moved their overall record to 11-5-2.  

ICC's goals were scored by Jenna Kinney, Melia La, Valeria Duque, and Isabella Guerra Palacio.  

Luiza Junior Dos Santos had two assists while Carolina Schultz added one for ICC.

"Although we complicated things for ourselves for parts of the match, we're happy we were able to manage the game to get the result we needed," coach Javi Valle said.  "We'll turn the page quickly as we face Iowa Western on Sunday."

The Reivers are a formidable opponent.  Not only are they ranked #1 in the NJCAA DI national poll with an 11-0 record, they also are the 2022 National Champions.  IWCC ended the Cougars' season in the District Finals last October and also won the 2023 season opener over ICC back on August 18. 

Iowa Western ranks 7th in the nation in goals scored with 67 and has only allowed a total of four goals by opponents on the season.  

"This will be the hardest challenge of the season, but we know we can compete which keeps us motivated and excited for that," Valle said.
