Ottumwa, IA - The #19 ranked Illinois Central College women's soccer team fell 7-0 to #1 Iowa Western CC at Schafer Stadium on Friday afternoon in the IHCC Soccer Classic. The match was the season opener for both teams in what was a rematch of last year's Central District Championship.
The Reivers came out firing, scoring their first goal just nine minutes into the contest. IWCC added two more scores before the half to take a 3-0 lead at intermission. The lead grew to 4-0 at the 48:26 mark on a kick from 25 yards out and the hosts kept the Cougar defense busy by adding three more goals for the final margin.
ICC had three shots on goal while IWCC had twelve.
Up next: The Cougars will have to regroup quickly as they face Indian Hills (ranked #15 in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll) on Saturday, August 19 at 1pm at Iowa Western's Schafer Stadium. The IHCC Classic is an annual event featuring top women's and men's teams playing seven matches over the course of three days in Ottumwa.
