Ottumwa, IA - The #19 Illinois Central College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with Indian Hills on Day 2 of the IWCC Classic at Schafer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  

"This was a good learning experience for everyone," head coach Javier Valle said.  "Obviously we had a tough loss yesterday against a very good team, but we turned the page and learned from our mistakes.  It was also our second game of the weekend and Indian Hills' first, so tired legs were an issue for us in the heat and humidity; but we were glad the team was able to push through those adversities and come out with a point."  

After a scoreless first half, the Cougars scratched their lone goal at the 53:16 mark off the foot of Valeria Duque (unassisted) on a penalty kick.  The Warriors got their goal at 80:13, scoring on a close range shot in the box to tie the score at 1-1. 

Goalkeeper Alba Vigo tallied nine saves on the day.

"We're a young team so we'll continue to learn and grow as a group as the season gets going," Valle said.

Next up:  The Cougars (0-1-1) will host Western Iowa Tech on Thursday, August 24 in their home opener at 4pm at CougarPlex Soccer Field.
