East Peoria, Ill. - The Illinois Central College women's soccer went toe-to-toe with their Region 24 rival Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon but came up on the short end of the stick, falling 1-0 at CougarPlex Field.
The Trailblazers put the Cougars on their heels early as they scored their goal in the opening minute and then kept the home team at bay the rest of the afternoon. The loss drops the Cougars' record to 5-3-1 overall and 0-3 in Region 24 while Lewis & Clark notched their fourth win in a row and improved to 5-3-1.
"Seeing how we played in the second half give us hope that we can turn this around," coach Javi Valle said. "Our attitude in the last thirty minutes was the best we've seen in a long time; we were just unfortunate that we couldn't find the equalizer. Injuries have been tough on us as well as
Alba Vigo, Kirsten Bruns, &
Rylee May (all three starters) were out today. We're hoping we can get them back soon and get the team back to where we expect to be."
