Champaign, IL - The 14th-ranked Illinois Central College men's soccer team made the drive down Interstate-74 to take on the Parkland Cobras, ranked 19th in Division-II, for a matchup that has bred an athletics-wide rivalry over the years. While the scoring did take a fair amount of time, the Cougars took to it first, and by full time, were the only ones to do so, picking up a 2-0 road shutout over the Cobras to get back in the win column.
ICC would score first in the 40th minute, and in far from a conventional fashion. See, it would be a long-ball from Cougar keeper
Jack Foster finding the foot of forward
Kristian Istocki for the 1-0 advantage at the break.
Fast forward to the mid-section of the second half, and the team's leading scorer,
Edgar Ludena, would tack on to his total, when he scored off a set piece and off an assist that was curled in by
Adam Pike and ultimately ending in the Ludena header and setting the final score.
The 2-0 victory marks the Cougars' fifth shutout within their seven wins on the season.
As the regular season starts to wind down, there are only two more regular season home matches, and one of them are this Saturday, when the Cougars host Region/MWAC foe Lincoln Trail at the CougarPlex for a 5PM kickoff.
