WS Season Ends at IA Western

10/27/2024 8:24:00 PM

Council Bluffs, IA - The Illinois Central College women's soccer team held their own for more than a half against #2-ranked Iowa Western in the Central District Tournament on Sunday but in the end the Rievers were too much, defeating ICC 6-0.  It was the third straight season IWCC has ended the Cougars' season in Districts.

"It's a tough way to end the season," coach Javi Valle said.  "For 45 minutes we saw we could compete with the best in the country but unfortunately we made big mistakes and they punished us for it."

Iowa Western scored two goals in the first half---one at the 5:15 mark and then at 12:57---before the Cougars dug in defensively to face a 2-0 deficit at the half.

However the Rievers kept on the attack for four goals in the second half, scoring at the 51:50, 55:49, 59:46, and 69:07 marks.
ICC closed their season with a 6-6-1 record while the Rievers moved to 12-0-3.

Being in the same District Tourney as Iowa Western (the two-time defending National Champions who have not lost a game since the 2022-23 season) has been a tough path for the Cougars and their Region 24 counterparts but they will continue to work in the off-season to make improvements.

"All we can do is learn from this and hope to come back stronger next year," Valle said.
