White & Co. Lead WBB in Win Over Sauk

East Peoria, Ill. - Kaitlin White's double-double of 18 points and 10 steals led four players in double figures as the Illinois Central College women's basketball team picked up an 89-44 win over Sauk Valley on Saturday afternoon in Ramsey Gym. White (Fieldcrest/Minonk, IL) shot 7-9 from the field (including four treys) and dished out 4 assists while Lily Luczkowiak (Illini Bluffs/Mapleton, IL) had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. 

Kamryn Heider (Richwoods/Peoria, IL) added 16 points, Addy Engel (Morton/Morton, IL) had 10 points and 3 boards, Cora DeSutter (Midwest Central/Manito, IL) had 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Savannah Orgeron (Mahomet-Seymour/Mahomet, IL) had 8 points. 

The Cougars dished out 24 assists on the day while forcing 37 Skyhawk turnovers.

Luczkowiak set the tone with three drives to the hoop in the opening minutes followed by two White jumpers. Put-backs by Larissa Taylor, Addi Swadsinky and Engel helped ICC to a 19-6 first quarter lead.  

Engel scored inside on a set play to open the second quarter, followed by a Heider three-ball and DeSutter score in transition (assist Lauren Maas). White turned a steal into a Luczkowiak layup and Heider added two more scores near the end of the half to put ICC ahead 39-21 at the break. 

White hit a three-pointer to open the third, followed by a Luczkowiak steal that led to an Engel layup. White stayed hot, hitting back-to-back long range bombs (assists Engel and Taylor) to put the Cougars up 50-29.  

ICC continued to wear down SVCC, leading to an 18-3 run as Heider hit Savannah Orgeron (Mahomet-Seymour/Mahomet, IL) for back-to-back layups. A Madison Jobe (Purdue Polytechnic/Indianapolis, IN) block led to a Heider layup as the Cougars went up 60-36 after three quarters.

Nine Cougars scored in the fourth, including a three-pointer by Gracie Heckert (Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, IL) and a layup by Emily Dana (Peoria Heights/Peoria, IL).   

Other: The Cougars also celebrated Alumni Day and had several former players & coaches in attendance. They were:  Kristyn Mitchell ('22), Camryn Stafford ('21), Jemia Carpenter ('16), Destiny Ramsey ('16), Hayley Reneau ('16), Marne Fauser ('96), Julia Lowe ('86), Jan Winkler ('74), Christine McQueen ('72), along with coaches Lorene Ramsey, Tom McGhee, and Greg Martin
