Mt. Carmel, Ill---Meritxell Mena dished out three assists and scored a goal to lead the ICC women's soccer team to a big 5-0 win over Wabash Valley College on Thursday afternoon in Mt. Carmel.
Teresa Avino scored two goals while Clementine Dufaure de Lajarte and Paula Gallardo each tallied one. Gallardo also added an assist for the Cougars, who move their record to 8-5.
"It was a very important win for us," said head coach
Javier Valle. "The girls knew what was on the line and knew what had to be done to get that #1 seed, which they did. I'm proud of these girls as I don't recall the last time our program has gone into the tournament as the #1 seed. We worked hard to earn it, but now we have to prepare ourselves to host and get the next game, which won't be easy."
Next up: The region semi-final game will pit Lewis and Clark vs. Wabash Valley, with the Cougars getting the winner in the region final on Sunday, October 31 at 12:00 pm at CougarPlex Field. The Region champion will earn a ticket to the district final.
