East Peoria, Ill. - The Illinois Central College women's soccer team did not let a little rain interfere with their goal of playing for a region championship as they defeated Lewis and Clark 2-0 in Region 24 tournament semi-final action Tuesday evening at CougarPlex Field. Technically, it was a lot of rain along with 15-20 mph winds but in the "win-or-go home" mentality of the post-season, the Cougars still played their game and got the victory to advance to Sunday's championship game against Wabash Valley.
"This was a dominant performance by the girls," head coach Javi Valle said. "It was tough to
play in the weather conditions (rainy/windy/cold) but the girls showed grit and determination that eventually led to the win and a ticket to the region finals."
Melia La and
Valeria Duque provided the scoring for ICC, with both goals coming in the first half.
The win also extends the Cougars' win streak to fifteen games, and moves their record to a perfect 15-0 on the season.
Next up: The ladies will host Wabash Valley at CougarPlex Field on Sunday, October 30 at 12pm. ICC won both meetings against the Warriors by identical scores of 4-1 on September 10 and September 29.
Wabash has an overall record of 6-7-2 and is riding a five-game winning streak. The Warriors got their program's first-ever post-season win on Monday with a 1-0 win over Lincoln Trail. Go to https://wabashvalley.prestosports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/releases/20221025dk9bol for the game recap.
